For this prototype portfolio unit, my plan is to create a prelude to the album and video that I am intending to produce for my final major project. The main concept revolves around the notion of the self in the age of information overload and accelerated attention spans, in a world dominated by technology. I want to express how the self can be re-imagined through and in technology, whilst observing the dystopia of a society that functions through technology and the cyclical nature of humanity that builds itself up before tearing itself down again. In simple terms I want to communicate the idea that we are already cybernetic beings, and with that in mind I want to evoke a narrative that mirrors the struggle of self acceptance within the labyrinth that technology has revealed. There are many ways I could go about this, and I will write a list as an initial mindmap.

• A short video that will be shot and scored by me
• A poem that I will write and record around the concept
• An experimental industrial/dubstep song
• An audio-visual performance combining AI and nature

Immediately, I feel that a poem will communicate my concept the best. Considering I am already planning an album and video that will most likely be completely instrumental, using words and the evocative emotion that can be expressed through the human voice seems to make sense. It could help give the later work more weight and be easier to understand. My plan now is to begin researching around this concept, and I feel that as I do that, the practical medium of how I will present it will become more clear to me.
